Holding: The Conscious Art of Embracing

We all have a deep longing to hold and to be held. Through simple words, black and white images, and wonder, we touch this need and recognize that when we are conscious and intentional, we can hold with our arms. We can hold with our words. We can hold with our very presence.

It All Belongs

I never imagined I would find myself among the one in four women who miscarry. None of us does. Yet miscarriage is the most common complication of pregnancy in the United States, occurring in 15-20 percent of clinically-recognized pregnancies, or 750,000-1,000,000 cases annually. Despite its frequency, miscarriage remains shrouded in shame and silence, and its emotional impact has not been sufficiently investigated.

Through poems and essays, I share my miscarriage story in the hopes that others won't feel so alone in this deeply personal journey and that perhaps, collectively, we can usher in deeper healing and love. Whether you are going through a miscarriage or loving someone who has joined this "club," I hope you will find yourself feeling supported, heard, and loved during a rather lonesome and unacknowledged time.
